BIOGRAPHY

Welcome!  I'm Ron Day, and this website features my photography. At age ten, photography entered my life when my parents gave me a 35mm camera. I was enthralled. To me it was magic. It sparked a life-long fascination with the qualities and characteristics of light, in all forms.  Then, a move to Tenkiller Ferry Reservoir gave me the chance to study and photograph wildlife in a beautiful part of northeast Oklahoma.

At that time, wildlife and photography became the main focus of my attention.  I read a number of books, and studied the work of the masters, Thomas Mangelsen, John Shaw, Frans Lanting, Jim Brandenburg, and Art Wolfe to learn all I could about the artistic side of wildlife photography. Living on the lake in a remote wooded area, I observed, studied, and photographed wildlife regularly, and often kept detailed notes for reference.  In the process, I became a  naturalist.  Slowly, I began producing photographs I liked, and then some I became proud of.

Since that time, my  photographs have been published in  Boating Life, Birder's World Online, Equus, Nature Photographer, National Wildlife, National Wildlife Federation's Annual Report, Nature's Best Photography, Outdoor Oklahoma, Peterson's PHOTO-graphic, Wild Bird, and many local publications.  A number of my photographs  have received recognition at nature photography forums online.  And, several of my images have received awards.

Since 1993, Outdoor Oklahoma has selected 30 of my photographs for publication in its annual "Photography Showcase", including one of a Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly used on its cover.  My photograph of a young red fox was selected by Nature's Best Photography as a contest winner, and featured full-page in the Spring 2007 issue of the magazine.  The image of a bald eagle I took in Alaska was awarded "Highly Honored" status in the prestigious Nature's Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards, and was featured full-page in the Fall 2007 issue of the magazine.  The same image was selected by National Wildlife for use as the "Final Frame" in the February/March 2008 issue of its magazine.

Today, I remain busy marketing my work, and  photographing birds, butterflies, and wildlife.  They are my favorites.  When I look through the viewfinder on my camera, I often feel as though I enter the world of my  subject.  My goal simply is to capture a special moment in time from that world.  Please feel free to contact me  if you have questions, comments, or suggestions. And, before you leave I want to invite you to visit my new online portfolio at NatureScapes.  It showcases some of my newest and best work.  Thank you for your interest in my photography.
